17th C France, Eight actors, seventeen characters, or is it only eight characters, or another way of looking at it, perhaps twenty characters? The costume challenges are much like (I imagine) those of plotting a mystery. When all is revealed it must make sense, seem "obvious", and yet to tip off the audience too soon would spoil the fun. Other challenges were budgetary, but with a crack team of students willing to try anything then a simple puritan's garment became a Prince's coat (with over 50 individually hand sewn buttons & velvet trim), one dress moves up in the world with 3 different underskirts, and a lovely 19th C Viennese ball-gown was changed into a 17th C dress for the maid's Cinderella transformation every night (and restored to it's original state following the show.)
