My very first set design had some very particular requirements.
Magee had a set of large 4x8 frames which we used to hold changeable "flats" for each act as well as 2 large rotating rectangular cubes onto which we painted various background images, a flat bench was given a double sided backing piece so it could be an art deco seat in one scene and a set of beach umbrellas in another. And 20 yards of satin was used to create an "ocean" the actors could dance "in".Please click on photo to see it full sized.

- Large wide steps to dance on
- Bright sun-drenched colours
- A deco look
- Utilize standard platform/risers as much as possible (4'x8' maximum 13)
- Use other existing furniture/set pieces as much as possible
- Students must be able to handle the change-overs between acts as quickly as possible.
